We have many varities of marginal plants a selection of the more commonly asked for varieties are listed below. We grow most of our plants on site, this ensures you get the best quality. We do have and can resource others so please do enquire using the contact page, or call us to see how we may help you.

Caltha Palustris - Marsh-Marrigold

Flowering time - April to September

Found mainly in wet woodland, stream margins and shady banks of lakes and ponds, the marsh-marrigold, also known as the kingcup, is a most imposing wild flower. It is a member of the buttercup (Ranunculus) family.

The marsh-marrigold blooms in springtime and is usually at its best in April and May, but in dark marshy woodland you might see these bold yellow flowers as late as July.

Lobelia Cardinals - Campanulaceae

Flowering time - July to October

A member of the bluebell family, this plant is also known as red lobelia. The name "cardinal flower" refers to the scarlet robes worn by the cardinals of the Roman Catholic Church.

Its stunning appearance has led to it being over-picked and harvested in the wild. It likes a moist habitat, and blooms in mid summer.

Iris Pseudacorus var. Bastardii - Yellow Flag Iris

Flowering time - June to August

An ugly name for a beautiful plant! Sometimes erroneously called "Sulphur Queen", it forms large clumps of the most lovely pale primrose yellow flowers. Very floriferous it continues to bloom for longer than many others. 3 ½ ft.

Vigorous and makes a good architectural plants. Grow in moist soil in sun.

Mimulus Luteus - Monkey Flower

Flowering time - July to September

Blood Drop Emlets, Monkey Musk, Monkey Flower

Well-travelled is this rather attractive, summer flowering perennial with large, red-blotched flowers for, although now naturalised in Britain (mainly in the north), its native home is Chile. 8-18 ins.

Pontederia Cordata var Lanceolata - Pickerelweed

Pickerel plant is an excellent choice for the sunny pond.

A strong growing plant, it reaches 24" and has delightful purple flowers June through August. Oval to lance shaped leaves are glossy. Plant with 4"-6" water over top of pot.
